Prologue: The Unholy College
Onyx Oni was found adrift at sea, on the wreckage of the ship her family chartered from Port Ratt. As a young child alone she was sent to the Calpheon Holy College for orphans. It was there she learned to hate Calpheon and all the ideals of the Holy College. When she broke free on her own, she started to form her own street gang. Starting with some petty criminals and rebels, she quickly became the head of the crime syndicate known as the Capheon Ratts.
Her new inner circle, consists of 5 individuals she has the most confidence they might not betray her, but she trusts no one. She whimsically calls them her Unholy College. Each member has their own league of criminals beneath them. "Like the squid we are of one body with many limbs and clouded in darkness. Our enemies will never find us."
Father Bludd is a former Calpheon soldier tortured by the church for reading the wrong books. He was a mercenary when he joined a group studying the ancients and became a sage following their science of combat he abandoned the sword and fights with the kyve. Oni gave him purpose and named him "Father" out of respect. This is not respect for the man, but for his wise advice. Following the guidance of the Sage, Father Bludd shows no mercy to those who would oppose him.
Sister Deth was a homeless woman found in the slums of Calpheon. Driven insane for reasons unknown, Sister Deth compels her victims to confess before they die or alternately before they beg her to just end them. Outwardly she seems happy, but underneath is a turmoil of emotions that take on another life in combat. She is kind to children and animals, but most seem to detect her inner nature, and they will flee from her presence.
Darkstar Won is the assassin for pay, Oni knows his loyalty is the silver she pays him. Scarred by battle he learned the ways of silence and shadows. Oni knows little about his past, she keeps it that way, she never reveals much about herself either. He is hiding a secret love for her. This unspoken truth is best left unspoken, for if Oni ever knew, she would abuse it for her own selfish needs.
Jacob Smith stole horses all his life, the first horse he named Axe Wound. The rider was dismounted by Jacob's axe, as the rider fell, the horse caught the edge of the blade in his flank. Jacob made a good living as a Calpheon stable owner until the authorities determined where he was stocking his stables. Oni often calls Jacob "The Horseman" but he doesn't find it funny. He currently deals with buying and selling of stolen goods, but cannot resist stealing horses.
The strangest member of Oni's Unholy College is the creature. As Father Bludd once said, "That thing isn't human. It is a black spirit wearing a human suit.". Sin Omen, as it likes the witticism of that name, is a powerful creature. It found the group one day and asked if it could join them. It follows the group from time to time making all the members feel uneasy. Only Onyx Oni had the nerve to ask it why it wanted to follow them. In the most sadistic tone of resonating voices it replied, "I find your group most entertaining... for the present.". Oni has told the others not to trust it, but also not to give it any reason to distrust them.
